Bill Cooper MSW, LICSW - Approach

What is psychotherapy?
It's friendlier than you think.
It can be a powerful experience to sit down with a therapist and finally begin to speak those thoughts that have been concerning you for so long.
Therapy moves you from a place of suffering to healing. It's curative
How does therapy work?
I provide a setting where you can closely and slowly look at the thoughts and behaviors that have been keeping you stuck. Most of us have not had this experience of slowing down our inner thought process.
Ideally you begin to see what needs to be changed and begin taking the action necessary to live a more fulfilled life. This can be a remarkable process.
Clients vary on the amount of time they are in therapy from a few weeks or longer. It's really up to you.

The relationship between the client and the therapist is the most important quality in therapy.
The therapeutic relationship must be safe, supportive and non-judgmental. It is this collaboration that allows the client the opportunity to carefully reflect upon ideas, emotions and behaviors that he or she is concerned about.
Usually our thoughts come and go so quickly we rarely notice how they affect our behavior. To be seriously involved in therapy is to take time to learn about the thoughts and ideas which make up the self. There is no other meeting between two people like it.
When therapy works, clients feel understood. More importantly, clients understand themselves in new ways and feel a new power to improve the situations and the relationships in their lives.
I invite you to contact me for a consultation and am happy to answer your questions.
